VOR/DME CAV, Chalons Vatry, 11 November 2009

Wim says:
CAV seems impossible to find at first. Judging from the lists, the coordinates come from GE and are incorrect. The cross is on the west side of the airport. So first go there. At the westernmost point of the airport that is accessible to the public, there is no beacon to be seen. But you can hear it and it is good too. So the map is correct.
I went via a large arc to the west and find a road there. Those are agricultural roads, easy to prepare, but it is beet season and it has rained in the past few days: mud! After a long drive through an area where Miss Mio (GPS) does not know any roads - unless I had entered walking as an option - I finally arrive at the western point of the airport. A high fence around it tries to prevent people from looking in. But I can get a foot on it halfway so I can just about take a photo over it.
The route from the airport was on the D977 south, the D18 west and a bit of the D5 north. Then right and via the GPS east to the fence.
