A beacon hunter need some luck. That also applies to the beacon hunter. During a return journey from Orange we came to a standstill in a traffic jam on the A6 about 5 km below Chalon. Just ahead of us was a viaduct over the road. My driver [ ;-) ] asked if I hadn't said that there had to be a beacon somewhere along the road. Yes, he was right and it couldn't be far away. I quickly grabbed the receiver and cassette recorder from the back of the car. I made a recording - the beacon came through loud and clear - and then the traffic jam started moving again. The camera at the ready! The mast became visible directly behind the viaduct. I would never have been able to make this recording if the traffic jam hadn't been there!

As mentioned, this beacon is next to the A6 between Tournus and Chalon, on the east side. You can get closer by taking the N6 to Tournus at Chalon Sud and the D6 to Messey-s-Grosne at Verrennes-le-Grand. The locator is on the right just before the viaduct over the A6.

This beacon is not on the GEN 2.5 list for 2024.
