Orleans, locator ORS, August 5, 2008

South of Pithiviers and east of Orleans you can find the locator ORS. This beacon is an example how a navigation system can bring you near to the beacon, but at the same time it is miles away.
At the spot where the navigator said the beacon must be, there was a house with a big garden. The lady who lives there had never seen a thing like on the pictures Wim showed here. So Wim tried several roads round there and couldn’t find the beacon. Then he let his navigator show not just the small part with the beacon, but a wider part of the surroundings. And the navigator showed that behind the house there is the Canal d’Orleans (declassé). The navigator said the beacon was just at the south of this Canal, just behind the house. So Wim drove to the north of the canal, back in the direction of the house and he again entered the coordinates into the navigator. And yes, this time he was directed to the beacon, at the north side of the Canal d’Orleans.

Route from Fay-aux-Loges to ORS, ca. 12.3 km –15 min.
Start in easterly direction on the D9/Rue des Maillets/route de Vitry-aux-Loges/Route de Fay. After 9.8 km at Les Quatre Routes take easy bent to left onto the D137/Rue de l'Abbé Visage. After 0.6 km you turn left onto the Rue Jules Ferry. Take easy bent to right after 500 meter onto the Chemin de Nestin. Drive for 1.4 km and there is a path to the left, leading to the beacon.
