Wim writes in his travel report:
The hotel in Hinterhermsdorf that we had in mind has no room,
so, to be on the safe side, we first go to HDO (Hermsdorf) which we should see on a hill.
Oh well, every now and then a DVOR has to be replaced. But why now... We only find the legs sticking up in the air,
all antennas are roughly thrown down in a container. We now know what is in it, actually nothing special.
That is probably why the housing is full of polystyrene. The best method to keep the antenna of metal strips in shape.
Don't worry, we will come back here sometime.

Wim writes in his travel report:
Yesterday we had a trip Leiden-Haaksbergen-Dresden, where we spent the night at the Ibis Budget hotel.
The TV is always on in the breakfast room of the Ibis. An item about the IFA comes on the screen and Johan knows that the fair must be in Berlin. Ouch!
It will be busy in the hotels in Berlin. We therefore decide to see after breakfast whether there is still room in the hotel we want. No.
All other options are just as good or bad as our current hotel. So we book two extra nights.
We can refuel very close to the hotel. Necessary after yesterday's trip. Johan scrubs the remains of the insects from the windshield and the headlights.
And then we head in good spirits towards our first beacon of this trip. Two years ago, this beacon was demolished to build a new one in the same place. The route to Hinterhermsdorf is very touristy. Unfortunately, many places have set up 30 km zones and prefer to place a camera behind a bend downhill. Fortunately, the rates in Germany are a lot lower! I got the bill at home in the mailbox, €15. The new HDO beacon is still shining on the hill after almost two years. We took photos and made sound recordings. In the meantime, the weather was glorious, sunny and around 25 degrees. And we still have a walk ahead of us. There is a lookout tower on a nearby hill. We walked there. Here and there steeply up the hills. Finally at the bottom of the tower, now first take a breather. The sign says that it is approx. 37 m high and has 176 steps. The view from above is fantastic. We can see a part of the Czech Republic, this corner of Germany juts out a bit into that country. And of course we see the HDO beacon from above. I dragged the telephoto lens with me and can get the beacon in full view. The way back is a lot easier, less climbing. Slow down and if you take it easy it goes well. Let the car blow through for a bit for the warmth and we can continue.
