Sassenheim Locator CH, 1995/ 5 September 2005.

Don't look for this Locator beacon in the village of Sassenheim. You will find it at the village Buitenkaag. Take exit 2 on the A44 and follow signs for Kaag(dorp) along the west side of the Hoofdvaart (canal). Near Buitenkaag the road bends to the right and immediately after that to the left. On the LHS of those bends you will find a plant of Waterschap Groot-Haarlemmermeer. The locator is at this plant.
The locator is behind one of three pumping stations (De Leeghwater) which were used to pump the Haarlemmermeer dry.

A pumpingstation that's more famous is located at Cruquius near Haarlem. It contains a museum. Follow the Ringvaart to the west if you like to go there.

This photo was made during one of the first trips I made together with Wim van Beek. Since he lives not far away from this location (12 mile) he could act as a guide.
Nowadays the east side of the Hoofdvaart is the best place to make a picture of this locator.
2005 - Wim went on his byke to the Buitenkaag, made some extra photo's and a soundrecording.

2024 In recent years, all NDBs except NW (Nieuwstad) have been disabled.
