When Johan just started collecting beacons, we hunted a few times in the west of the Netherlands.
One of the beacons we took photos of was GV in Scheveningen.
At the harbor where also the Norfolk Line was located, there was a navy radio communications site.
At that site with lots of antenna masts – also the Radio Scheveningen ones – the beacon was hidden.
And we used the car owned by Wim, with very striking colors.
Wim is making a photo of Johan near the car – with telephoto lens – and of course,
a part of the antenna is on this photo.
There after he walked to the gate and took a photo of the beacon.
Unfortunately, the photo wasn’t sharp.
An old book, the "Handbuch der Funknavigationshilfen",
told us that this beacon is a “naval,” a military beacon.
Wim had to go through lots of slides to recover those of GV. But luckily he found them and made a scan. This beacon disappeared soon after we made those photos. But we see more and more beacons disappear. With history in mind we have placed this beacon on this site, just as other disappeared beacons.
