In June 2024 we received a question about IJsselmonde. The question was about a radio beacon that was on the IJsselmonde water tower.
The questioner - Kees Verhoeven - sent us some photos on which - unfortunately unclear - a construction could be seen on the water tower.
At first it seemed to be a long-wire antenna in the photos, later there was a vertical antenna.
It would be a predecessor of the NDB ROT as can be seen on this site.
Wim found a newspaper article in the Rotterdams Parool of 13-08-1960 on delpher.nl in which the arrival of the ILS at
Rotterdam airport is described. In this article the beacon on the water tower is mentioned as an approach route.
After searching in many ways, Wim also found one of the photos sent by Kees in the city archives of Rotterdam.
We also hope to receive more information via LVNL.
